A smartphone with data is your first step towards making your life easier in Malaysia.

Download the Grab app (local Uber equivalent service) for easy travel within the city and Catchthatbus app for intercity bus travel.

While you can get away with paying with a credit card in most places, carry some local currency (ringgit) as many smaller shops will only accept cash payments.

Most locals in Kuala Lumpur can speak some degree of English or Mandarin so language shouldn't be a significant barrier.

Pack a small umbrella as the weather, depending on when you go, can be unpredictable at times.
